unofficial home of Helston AFC

Welcome to Helston Athletic Football Club

This season at Helston AFC was considered by many as the most successful in the clubs long history. We were able to field a record 3 adult and 11 youth teams, with every team week in and week out, giving it their all, often playing at a much higher level than could be expected. The result being our silverware collection has been enhanced with a good selection of new league title, runners up and cup final trophies. The season culminated in our first Cornwall Senior Cup Final appearance in 75 years, losing only in the dying seconds of extra time, in a 4-3 replay thriller to a odds on favourites Bodmin Town.

We thus enter the new season with the first team squad in high spirits and optimistic that this will be the year we win promotion to the Carlsberg South Western Premier League, while continuing our exceptional recent run in the knockout cup competitions. With many of our junior teams having been promoted, this year is surely going to be yet another season of high action drama.

However, not all activity will be on the pitch. Not only have we received planning permission to install floodlights, we are also discussing building a grandstand and some other significant ground improvements. With an estimated budget of around £125,000, this is going to be a financial challenge and we thank all of our Sponsors past, present and future for your contributions.

None of our success, on or off the field, would have occurred without the leadership and vision of Nigel Hannaford, who after 25 years as President has decided it is time to hang up his boots. We wish him well in his “retirement”. He will be a tough act to follow.

On the social side, the clubhouse continues to play a significant role in the community. Not only acting as a meeting place for players and supporters before, after and between games, but increasingly hosting various other local clubs and activities, not directly related to football. If you live in the Helston area, are just visiting, or are looking for a great space to hold your events, please drop in to the clubhouse or give us call on 01326 573742 we would love to have you be part of “our team”. Also, be sure to keep an eye on our blog for the latest news.

The next nine months are gearing up to be the most exciting in the history of our club. As always we look forward to the opportunity of providing a warm welcome, not just to the players and supporters of the “BLUES” but those of the many visiting teams and officials who travel to Kellaway Park every year.
